Our clients, a US-based manufacturerer of IGCC technology (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) plants required a landscaping study across Europe to assess the ecosystem for clean coal technologies in different countries, and to evaluate the potential impact of strategic decision in these countries.
After assessing the situation EU-wide and in each focus country through studying the data available in the public space, ABE interviewed key industry experts and regulators across western and eastern Europe in order to establish the potential market and obstacles for IGCC, enabling the client to re-evaluate their investment in IGCC.
Scenario Game / Strategy workshop
ABE’s clients, a major Scandinavian fixed and mobile telecommunications operator, needed help planning their fixed, mobile and broadband strategy by analysing the strengths and weaknesses of key competitors, and assessing their potential future market strategies.
ABE proposed to hold a Scenario Game. Equipped with the findings of a Competitive Analysis, a group of our client’s employees from different departments “took on the personas'“ of employees these companies. We played through several scenarios, in which the different market players “competed” against each other and developed competitive strategies.
As a result of this Scenario Game, our clients were able to predict the most likely market strategies of their competitors. We subsequently hold a strategy workshop to develop a plan to respond to their clients anticipated moves.
Trend Research
ABE’s clients, a mobile handset vendor, wanted a competitive analysis of the latest trends in technology and services concerning backhaul traffic in the five key European markets (EU-5).
We thoroughly investigated the current situation in all five countries through studying the data available in the public space and then organised a number of local-language interviews, as well as a English-language, cross-country panel to establish the key trends – EU-wide and country specific.
As a result of our Foresight Study, the client was able to develop their own product, pricing and commercial strategy in line with the key trends in each market.

The entertainment division of a software vendor wanted to discuss a world-class online customer acquisition strategy.
In order to support this task, ABE investigated the respective customer acquisition strategies of other leading companies, such as Sony Online Entertainment, Yahoo!, Netflix, Electronic Arts - Pogo, Comcast, Apple, Pokerstars, CBS Sportsline and Tivo. The research covered all of these companies’ key market, in both Europe and the US.
As a result of our study, we developed an acquisition strategy for our clients, which we’ve subsequenly refined in a strategy workshop with the leadership of our client.
